Kindergarten teacher, Mary Hellige, embraces new learning for herself and her classroom by implementation of our new literacy curriculum resource EL Education. During their work in Module 1, Unit 3 the class rotates through various stations to engage in their learning. During one rotation the students are using BeeBots and Osmo as a technology integration tool within the EL Education literacy curriculum. NUMBER TALKS

Watch 3rd Grade teacher Jenny Herriman find out what her class knows about Fractions through Number Talks. Using Sherry Parrish's Number Talks books, Mrs. Herriman and her class are taking a journey to develop a deep conceptual understanding of fractions and whole numbers through the Number Talk routine. Jenni Bentley and her 6th grade class are using the new Open Up Resources Curriculum from Illustrative Math...and loving it! Students are participating in number talks, "notice and wonders", group activities, and discovery learning. Through exploratory lessons, students work together in groups and as a class to create deep understanding and connections between length, volume, and weight, and the units of measurement in both the metric system and the US customary system. Student engagement and learning are soaring using OUR from Illustrative Math (available for grades 6-8 now...K-5 and High School coming soon!)

THREE ACT TASKS

High School Special Education Teacher Kay Petersen knows how to make science relatable to her students. Three Act Tasks are just one tool she uses to get students thinking and talking about science and math connections in the real world. Students of all grades and ability levels are able to participate in the "Notice and Wonder", questioning, estimation, and calculating opportunities that a Three Act Task provides. PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING

Clint Kobelt, award-winning building trades instructor, discusses how he structures his classroom environment to allow his students various learning opportunities to tackle real-world problems. In addition, Clint will explain different stations he uses and how this instructional approach has allowed him to increase student engagement in the classroom. Problem-based learning is a student-centered instructional approach where students apply their knowledge to a complex problem. The role of the teacher in this setting is to facilitate rather than engage in a lot of direct instruction. Watch Clint's video and hear how students use algebraic and geometric principles for a given concrete pour.

I SEE, I THINK, I WONDER

High School Social Studies teacher Carrie Burken discusses the value of using the "I see, I think, I wonder" method as part of her US History class. The I see, I think, I wonder" method provides students the opportunity to examine sources using an inquiry approach. Carrie will explain each of the different phases of this instructional approach and show how to best use the method.
